Doorstep adventures: Going big close to home
In 2019 Anna ran 2,352 miles (the distance of 90 marathons) through Britain – completely barefoot. Starting in the Shetland Islands and ending five months later in London, she weaved her way along rugged coastlines, through small villages, across moors, along beaches, over farmland, and even pitter-pattered down the odd picturesque A-road too. Join Anna as she recaps the many mishaps and shares stories from the 2,500 kind Brits who spurred her on by joining in the run.
Mark Beaumont has cycled around the World twice and filmed expeditions to well north of 100 countries. And yet, like all of us, his wings have been clipped over these last few years. The silver lining has been seeing the familiar in unfamiliar ways and some incredible adventures right here in Britain. It started with a lockdown-inspired mission to run every street in Edinburgh with Harriet, his 6-year-old daughter on her bicycle. After 3 months and over 100 hours, they had ‘coloured in' the entire city. Then came the mid-winter-inspired concept of figuring out how far we were allowed to go, finding tracks and trails to ‘explore your boundaries’ which has become a popular Komoot project. Then this taking on the classic end to end, Land’s End to John O’Groats, not once, but 3 times by different means and for different motivations. Amazing adventures, close to home, that have given Mark a whole new appreciation of the diversity of landscapes and adventures right here in Blighty.
