Perspective is everything and this film reminds us both of the joy and beauty of time in the mountains and the love and strength of family. A film that makes you think long after the credits have rolled... It was a definte highlight of mine at the 2024 Festival and one that Sir Chris Bonington watched with us and refected on after, "It represented exactly what the Festival stands for - accurately showing the challenges and reality of a mountain expedition but how in the end it is the people that you share it with that makes it meaningful."

I'm lucky to have watched countless films over 20 years at the Festival, and this brilliant piece by photographer, journalist and artist Matthew Tufts is one of the best in category I’ve seen. The unique creative approach and central narrative showcase one of the most audacious lines ever skied. We follow Aurel Lardy, Vivian Bruchez and Jules Socié as they steer their 'planks' on the near-vertical granite walls of Fitz Roy, aiming to pioneer new descents. The film blends photography, journalism, and high-level skiing to honour the mythical ‘Whillans-Cochrane’ ramp, first skied by Festival friend and steep skiing legend Andreas Fransson (RIP) in 2012.

Fell running. The characters, the camaraderie, the competitiveness, the lung-bursting suffering of the ups then the pure exhilaration of the descent; it's all here in this lovely film. Takes you straight to the heart of the sport.

It's impossible to pick one film that stands out, but for me it has to be The Fingerboarder. I love films that give me a rare glimpse into the life of individuals who have found their groove in life and are following their own unique path. Beautifully shot and whimsical, this is a film that asks us to take passion seriously; however wonderful and whacky that passion may be!

This multi-layered environmental film blew me away. Stunning cinematography, beautiful storytelling and incredible archive footage from the 1980s activism - a powerful film that leaves you with a real sense of hope.

Rarely do we get given a film filled with such pure adventure as this one. With an all-start cast, this film open's our eyes to exploring locations rarely travelled by western cultures. Getting the locals involved in such a monumental challenge will never be nothing but inspiring!

Emily and Diggins make an incredible team as they take on a winter thru-hike of the Ice Age Trail. Seeing Emily’s achievements inspire and lead other people of colour to follow in her footsteps is brilliant to see.

This film really stood out to me because it offers a fresh take on what an expedition film can be. Manu Delago and his ensemble turn the Alpine landscape into both stage and instrument, performing original compositions in wild, high-altitude settings. It’s rare to see music and adventure so seamlessly woven together, and the result is something deeply atmospheric, human, and quietly awe-inspiring. A beautiful reminder that the outdoors can inspire not just movement, but sound.

I loved this brilliant film about the powerhouse that is Sheri. What an incredible woman and what an amazing trailblazing life she’s led. This energetic, informative and emotional film will leave you with a smile on your face and a strong urge to buy a packraft.

What a woman! This brilliant documentary about the remarkable Myrtle will leave you astounded at her accomplishments both in the world of polar exploration, and as an 89 year old continuing to live life to the full.

Hit the wall and just keep pushing! Tom Randell shows us what real suffering is by taking on the ultimate challenge of running AND climbing in one continuous push. Truly dicing with death while completing a monumental challenge, Tom shows us what humans are really capable of.
